I am currently reviewing our policies around shared parental leave and adoption leave. Currently, in accordance with the Burgandy book, staff exercising their right to taking shared leave when their partner is returning from mat leave or those taking adoption leave are only entitled to the equivalent of SMP with no occupational pay. Our Headteacher feels this is unfair and off putting to potential adoptive parents and to parents who may wish to share parental leave after the birth of a baby but we would just like to get a feeling as to whether other academies provide occupational pay in these situations or whether most follow the Burgandy book? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
