CCTV

Hi,

We have an employee who was seen abusing the clocking system on our CCTV system. It came to light when the CCTV was being viewed in relation to a disciplinary matter in with another employee.

She was spoken to and is now saying that we should never have discplined her as we weren't viewing the CCTV because of her?

Does she have any basis for this? Our CCTV policy states that CCTV can be viewed for H&S reasons & to support disciplinary investigations. She is taking a different interpretation from this.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Hi there, as long as you followed the stages of an investigation, a disciplinary hearing, issue of sanction consistent with D&G policy and that issued employees for the same transgression in past, you permitted opportunity for them to appeal, then it's just tough luck. Above, you correctly gave reasons for viewing CCTV, and she got caught on video by chance. That doesn't alter the fact she was doing something wrong. Just needs to be a consistent and reasonable sanction.
  • She's talking complete and utter tripe.

It is your interpretation of your CCTV policy which matters - not her view of it. And in any case even if she tried to use her excuse it hardly mitigates the fact that she misused the clocking system..

  • Thanks guys! We have definitely followed procedure but always challenging when something new is queried. I haven't had this before.
