People analytics course

Hello everyone,

Has anyone completed the CIPD People Analytics Course recently? https://shop.cipd.org/product?catalog=People-Analytics-Accredited-Programme

I would like to understand to what extent it helps to put the knowledge into practice, how much focus is on actually on analysing data and using the tools like Excel, as well as how much it goes into detail when it comes to Python, R, SQL and machine learning.

Kind regards,

Kamila

  • Hi Kamila, on the page link you shared you can request a callback to find out more about the CIPD people analytics course. The course is tool agnostic, ie you can choose whatever tool to answer your question (using Excel, Python, R...). If you're looking for step-by-step guidance on mastering people analytics using a particular tool (eg Python), then you might want to also look at data science courses (or online resources, books) that show you how to analyse data using that tool.

Thank you very much for your reply, Hayfa! I followed up and it does seem like it's more of a theoretical course and it doesn't go into much detail on learning how to use the tools, which my manager said could be the case, however, I imagine if I wanted to do a general analytics/data analyst course, he would say that it's not teaching the tools with the HR context in mind, so I'm not sure if there is a course out there that combines both so that I can increase the chances of my manager approving me to study this course,

There are lots of course providers apart from CIPD. Try googling keywords like people analytics for HR courses. Maybe add the keyword free to see what free resources you can get.

There are good books out there too - add keyword books in your google search. We've got several people analytics books in the CIPD bookshop. There's currently a special deal where members can get 40% off books (normal discount is 20%):
    https://www.cipd.org/uk/learning/cipd-bookshop/

If your manager is budget conscious, maybe you could ask for money to buy books and time at work to apply what you've learnt. Is there a mini project that you could do at work?

Kamila, whilst you are waiting to find the right course, I would suggest having a look at anything by Edward Tufte on the presentation of information.

Doing clever things with data is one thing, presenting it in a meaningful way is something quite different and Tufte is a great source of information in presenting information.
