Advice please on gaining HR Experience

Hello All,

I have recently completed my CIPD level 5 in HR and ILM level 5 in Leadership and Management.

I am now trying to gain advice on how to gain employment in HR part time or full time, would also consider temporary work too.

I would consider unpaid Work experience in HR but would need to work round present commitments. Also how would you be best placed securing this? Any advice on this front?

Also which HR recruitment consultancies or other recruitment firms would be best to register with if your based in the Edinburgh area?

I am imagining the current climate will make into even more challenging to obtain my first paid role in HR at present.

My background is as a duty manager, line manager, senior manager and business owner in sports, retail and food service industries which had given me 20 years experience as a manager with 9 years of it in a larger retailer where as a line manager and senior manager I had a lot of exposure to dealing with people management and HR within my roles such as recruitment and selection, performance management, people management, disclipnary and investigations etc which I am seeing especially now with completion of this course.

  • Hi Bryan

Please try searching this subject as it is one of the questions that comes up most often in these forums. There is a lot of good advice on here already about transitioning into HR from a management career. It is a difficult transition to make.

However, there may be people out there who can recommend agencies in Edinburgh.
