Who asks you? Are you a lecturer in HRM or in recruitment or something. It seems odd to be asked it a lot.

But generally.

Building relationships
Building credibility
Understanding the business
Spending time on the front line
Delivering what ever tasks the boss gives you well and on time.

Great thanks Keith. I am a Resourcing Account Manager so would support Units to recruit HR Managers and this is a task they would usually ask for advice on.

What are your thoughts on your question?

I would assume most new starters to a business would want to know where existing managerial priorities lay so they can focus on results that the company want dealing with - weaknesses that HR can deal with perhaps.

In addition to those activities already suggested: get to know the company's policies and contractual T&Cs

Focusing on passing your probationary period and then taking things and matters from there.
