Engineering Competency Matrix

Hi

I work in the areospace market and have been asked by my CEO to create a competence matrix for aerospace engineers.  The idea is the matrix will be used as a tool for succession planning but also for personal development.  I have looked at several matrices to see if I could 'tweak'them, but unfortunately I have been unable to find a one that is suitable.

I have reviewed the UK Standard for professional engineering competence and whilst it has some excellent standards 42 pages long.

Could anyone please help me and suggest the most relevant areas of competency that should be measured and included in the matrix.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

  • Hi Susan

I think your best bet would be to get together a small group of acknowledged technical specialists from within your own organisation to take this on as a project facilitated by you. Your knowledge of your organisation plus their technical skills will tell you whether you are starting with a clean sheet of paper and using tools such as repertory grid to draw up your own competences or can edit the document you have found.
