Hi everyone,
I am a new member of CIPD community, I have recently completed my studies with MA HRM, before that, MBA in finance and marketing and BBS with finance.
Struggling to find a path to get into the UK HR industry. Looking forward to have some guidance. If anyone has openings please let me know.
Your valuable time and support will be highly appreciated.
Warm regards,
Utsav
I have some bad news: you are wildly over-qualified and, I suspect, under-experienced to be accessing the HR profession in the UK.
UK HR tends to be a ground-upwards career path, meaning that pretty much everyone is expected to enter at the level of an administrator or assistant at a salary between minimum wage and around £35k. Entry-level roles tend to be highly sought-after and a Level 3 or Level 5 qualification - or being enrolled in the course - is often considered to be a useful thing to have on one's CV but, above that, there is a risk that you are seen as not being interested in the nuts and bolts of HR.
I assume you got your Master's in the UK, which means that it should have been accredited with the CIPD, conferring upon you a Level 7 certification.
If not, then your MA is largely worthless to you as an entry-point for HR practice in the UK. Your MBA will similarly be worthless until you are in a Business Partner or senior management position.
Your most likely pathway is via some form of graduate fast-track scheme, which can be found around the public and private sectors, but which are highly competitive. However, if you can find a place on one, you are more likely to be able to make a sideways move into a senior advisor or junior Business Partner role to acquire the practical skills and knowledge that are essential to a career in operational HR. Alternatively, you could move into an L&OD role, which can be a parallel track to senior management positions that is, in some ways, more forgiving (but more precarious, as cuts to L&OD always seem to come before cuts to operational HR).
