Finding a role post CIPD qualification

Hi!

I completed my CIPD level 5 back in April and since then I’ve been struggling to find a role. I have the experience doing with employee relations, recruitment, training and development.

However I do believe my current job role/title in retail as an assistant store manager is really hindering me and I don’t know how to proceed. All my roles have involved me being heavily involved in the HR aspect of the business, so I some have experience along with a BSc in Psychology.

A lot of feedback I’ve been getting from rejected applications is that I don’t have any experience in the ‘role’ and this from HR administration to HR assistant. I have redone my CV countless times, had friends who work in CV take a look so I’m not sure what more I can do.

The constant rejection has been very demoralising and I am very aware they the job market is very competitive. I was just wondering if any one had any advice on what I can do to help get my foot in the door. I’ve been trying to get into HR for a few years now and I have the passion for the job and I know can do it, I’m just very unsure of what to do at the moment.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi  I can imagine the process is demoralising and frustrating.

Have you used the member-to-member mentoring programme, to find a mentor to support you on your journey into a new role. You may find this really helpful.  It's always nice to have someone to think things through with, get some clarity and a little moral support CIPD member-to-member mentoring programme | CIPD. It's part of your CIPD benefits, so you can access the service simply using your CIPD Membership email and password Slight smile

And the Career Support Toolkit CIPD Career Support Toolkits | CIPD to help you overcome career challenges, including how to find a job in the people profession.

    Wishing you all the best!

  • Ah this is so tough and you are right, the jobs market is really tight right now.

Are there any opportunities within your current organisation that you can work towards? Even if it isn't where you want to stay forever, just to get that change on your CV?

If not, have you considered a skills-based CV rather than experience-led? These can be really useful for career changers because it gears everything about your CV towards HR and allows you to talk about all that HR experience that you have that is too easily overlooked when someone sees retail. Best CV examples | Boost your job search | Prospects.ac.uk
