Whilst I have not selected individual modules for a CIPD Level 5 'Award', I am just coming to the end of a Level 5 certificate where I have chosen 3 optional modules and had to complete 3 compulsory modules. As this was done via 'Mixed mode' I didn't attend college or any workshops, but did have an allocated Coach/Assessor. As I have been in HR about 15 years now I was able to mix 'academic' research with work place examples in my assignments.
I completed my level 3 at College, but have completed my NVQ 4 (no longer recognised by CIPD) and Level 5 via work based learning.
At times it can be quite difficult in terms of motivation, but I needed the flexibility of not having to attend college every week. I was also very lucky in that I had a work based mentor and work in a large HR team who have all been through CIPD qualifications.

You don't have to answer this but may I ask why you decided against the experience assessment route?

Steve Bridger No issues on answer. Having looked into it the timings etc Im put off by the lack of flexibility and the fact Im concerned I may be missing something or the chance to learn more? Perhaps Im overthinking the whole process - I wonder if anyone has had experience of the assessment route?
