Getting experience in Rewards in HR

Hi,

I am really interested in getting exposure to the rewards side of HR; I work in a company of 5000 employees in the UK where we have one reward advisor.

I have over 4 years experience as a generalist at HR Assistant level.

I wondered has anyone being seconded into payroll to get more experience of payroll and tax and benefits?  Is this necessary in HR if you want to develop as a specialist in rewards?

Many Thanks,

Farah

  • Most reward people I know (and I was one for a time) have never worked in payroll - its a separate function that is quite specific and technical.

Whilst it wouldn't do any harm to have an appreciate of payroll this could be gained from a very short term assignment there or working alongside a payroll person on specific projects rather than a full fledged transfer for 6-12 months or whatever.

Others may of course have experiences of different paths.
