In between specialisms and need advice on how to re-focus

I have been working in HR for nearly 20yrs now, predominantly in Resourcing where I moved from local, regional to then global remits for major multi-national companies.

With my last business in the energy sector, I had completed all the senior resourcing roles, so when an expat assignment ended, I was moved into a global culture change role. This role lasted 4yrs, and it co-incided with the energy downturn and myself and my team were made redundant.

Since that point, I took a year out to complete my Masters in HRM, however, I am now finding that I am stuck between not enough experience in the culture area, but too far removed from TA positions. So when applying for roles, I'm no longer a square peg for a square hole.

Had some very good interviews recently, all have however not moved forward as I have been advised that I am too senior for the role and would get bored easily in a smaller remit to what I had previously, they wanted people in stretch roles.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and can offer some guidance on how to work around this? Or any help or assistance on what I should do next? Any steer would be greatly appreciated
