Head office professional to HR admin/assistant/anything?

Hi. I've just bought a short course in HR and recruitment management and really enjoyed it. I have always really liked HR and think it would be great to move into HR. I have had experience in interviewing and screening candidates and I feel I have a lot of transferable skills, including reporting, time and people management skills, as well as analysis and interpreting data. I would like the opportunity to move into HR and designed my CV to scream about my transferable skills and my diploma, however I've yet to have any sort of feedback or responses, even when sending speculative allocations to specialist HR companies. I am happy to take on a maternity or fixed contract to build up my knowledge. I would be grateful of any thing anyone could help me with. I don't know what else to do to get a small bite from someone?

Many thanks in advance

  • Hi Shari,

I sympathise with you, it's very, very difficult to get into HR. You don't say what the course was that you did so it's difficult to comment on its suitability; HR can be a little protective of its jobs, and it sometimes feels that if you don't have a recognised CIPD qualification you're not able to do the job.

I would suggest applying for any of the 'starter' HR roles irrespective of area of business - from there it's just persistence and luck! Once in, you can move to the type of HR role or area that you want to work in. It's much easier to go to an HR role from an HR role than it is from outside.

It is, I'm afraid, just a numbers game. The more applications you send off, the more likely you are to get a bite!
