Temping for same Orgarinsation for more than 3 years and confused

I have been temping via the Agency for more than 3 years for the same orgarnisation in the same role. Recently they wanted  to make my role permanent.  They told me to help in drafting the job description which i did and we excluded some of the roles that would have been difficult for anyone other than myself was taking it on. I went through invetview process but they did not offer me the job because they said i was over qualified and they needed to push me out because they felt i could do better. Ws this legal. I have all the emails of our conversations. They recruited someone so junior that i hacve had to train for 3 months. Is this acceptable.

  • "over qualified and could do better".

I assume they checked with you that this is what you wanted? Not that it makes any practical difference to the issue in hand. Bad luck.

I cannot personally see why anyone would get turned down for being 'over qualified' but then I wouldn;'t have the same  mindset as someone who thinks you can't be doing a job you have more qualifications for than you need.

The 'traditional' reason for this is often companies think you'll leave as soon as you find a 'better' job, but I'd guess the real reason is the management, particularly the line manager may be uncomfortable managing someone whose more qualified perhaps than themselves.
