Level 3 or level 5

Hello,

I am currently a Clinic Manager but have about 8 years experience in clinic manager and office Manager roles. I have a lots of experience in People management and two years ago I completed a level 3 in leadership and management with ILM.

Having not worked in an actual HR department would I struggle starting at level 5 or will my previous experience help?

I am expecting on completion of studies to acheive a mid level role in HR or a combined office manager/ HR support role.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Hayley, I would suggest you look at the CIPD level 3 in HR Practice. If you have a company in mind to go through I would have a chat with them and see what they say about your experience and see if it would help with the level 5 but the level 3 would give you a cover of recruitment and employee relations (I'm currently on the level 3 of the HR practice). You can then go on to the level 5 if you wanted as thats what I hope to do in the next 3 years once I've got abit more experience.

    Hi Hayley

I think your previous qualification in Leadership and Management and your lived experience of people management will stand you in good place to complete your level 5.

As a current Director of Workforce i am pleased to see team leaders from across services and operations interested in undertaking HR qualifications and they often bring just as much experience to the table (Sometimes more) than those who perhaps have worked in HR admin for example

    Hi Hayley,

Having completed Level 3 myself (considering I also have a degree) I found it too high-level to be challenging, and ended up wishing I'd started at Level 5. I don't have broad experience in HR, just recruitment, but was still able to complete all of the modules without any trouble. My advice would be to go for Level 5.

    Hope this helps?
