Working in Tax, transition to HR

Hello, 

I have seen the CIPD courses mentioned on a few sites, with some having good deals around black Friday and Christmas. 

Currently I work in Global Mobility tax role within the big 4 accounting firms at Manager level, and have a CTA qualification. In my first year I had a mixed employer role, including share scheme, payroll, Global mobility and employment taxes. I have 8 years experience. 

My typical client contacts are HR directors or head of reward. I wondered whether doing the CIPD qualification would help me transition into a in-house role as a reward manager in the medium term (3/5 years). Global mobility tax roles are becoming more frequent for in house roles in large corporations, but in general are limited as most are outsourced to providers, and usually under a HR directors remit. 

I am also a people mentor to three people, and have some experience with performance discussions, but no extensive experience with HR as a whole.

Has anyone done anything similar? And would anyone have a suggestion of a level to enter? It would likely be through self funding.

    I personally think your existing skills in managing people and supporting the HR function would be really helpful in moving into HR.

    If you do plan to do a CIPD qualification, really vet all potential schools for student support and teaching quality. Sounds like Level 5 would be a good fit for you.

    Personally, I doubt that a L5 or 7 (and certainly a L3) will be the deal sealer for any transition into HR. Whilst neither would be unhelpful (and if it were me with your background and career ambitions I would go for L7 to get the certificate more than anything else) you only need to do a search of past threads to see lots of well qualified people who cant get in or get on.

    What will get you moving forward is focusing on your specialist skills - C&B - and building networks and expertise in that area. Really good commercial C&B people are hard to find and more transition into HR in this field than in other HR fields. I would be focusing on that rather than necessarily getting other qualifications as a way in
