Masters v CIPD Level 7

Hello, I'm looking for some advice and hoping someone can help please?

I'm halfway through studying for an MSC in Human Resource Management PT (equivalent to CIPD Level 7) at university and need to decide whether, I wish to go onto to achieve a full master's degree or finish at CIPD Level 7.  Although, I work as a HR advisor for a small firm, I am new to the industry and only have 2.5 years direct HR experience. I would like to become a Rewards specialist in the future. I am very unsure what to do, my university are very one sided and make a hard sell for the masters.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • If you are on your way to complete Msc in HR you should continue to complete the Masters, meanwhile if you can get the CIPD accreditation it will be an added advantage for your HR career.
  • You are early in your HR career Kayleigh - so I think the choice is yours. Does the Masters help you specialise in the Reward field that you want to develop into in future? If not how will it benefit you? If there is an additional cost to do the Masters now I think you are right to evaluate the real benefit of it getting you to your desired career destination, as there may be specialist programmes you can do in future when you have more experience to build on. Happy to chat this through with you if it helps
