Getting a HR role

Hi there!

im looking to start a Level 5. However I have never worked in HR. I also do not hold a degree, latest studies were A levels.

Im looking at jobs descriptions and all ask you to have at least 1/2 yrs experience which for me it’s impossible to have. I’m worried I’m going to spend a lot of money doing the Level 5 and then struggle to find a job in HR.

i have a large experience en customer service, fraud and quality analyst, anti money laundering and compliance positions which is not relevant for HR positions…

Can anyone give me any advices , please?Sob

  • Hi Beatriz,
The most honest advice i can give is look at entry level HR roles or admin based roles that dabble in HR. The CIPD qualification is great for your CV, but experience is vital in securing a position.

If you really want to transition into HR, you may need to take a pay decrease and work at a lower level than you are currently, in order to get your 'foot in the door'.

I remember when i didn't work in HR looking for HR roles ... all wanted experience. I took a more general admin role, that allowed me to absorb a few HR related tasks and made it clear i was happy to take on anything HR related. I now work as a HR Manager and have 5 years experience.

I do think transitioning from another role is difficult, because you will be at a certain level and wont be able to achieve that level in a HR field. People on here have also mentioned speaking with your local CIPD branch for advice and guidance, I've never done it myself but could be a good route.
    Best of luck
