Qualification recommendations

Hi,

Looking for some advice.

I work as a HR Manager and currently hold CIPD L3 & L5.

I want to continue my development but cant make any changes in terms of new job/new role right now.

My current role isn't exactly providing opportunity for growth and development and I need to keep my skill set and knowledge fresh for when I decide to look for something new.

Can any one make any recommendations for qualifications or training that could be beneficial to my role. If you were hiring a HR Manager, what would you hope to see on their CV ?

Side note - I do not want to study for L7 right now.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi Hannah,
Can you tell us a bit more about your current role and its priorities? Or (if that's more appropriate) the kind of role that you'd be looking for next?
The non-CIPD type studies I've done that have been most helpful to me was doing a Graduate Diploma in Law. I realised quite how thin the legal component of my CIPD qualification had been (we're talking about a qualification back in the 1990s, so I'm sure it's better now).
Depending on the employer, I can see a whole host of parallel qualifications that could add value - in finance, company secretarial, data protection, health and safety, mediation, project management etc - depending on the problem that organisation is trying to solve at that time!
    Good luck.

  • Hi Nina,
Thanks so much for getting back to me.
I work in a stand alone HR Manager role.
I do all the doing so to speak, but don't have much to do with strategy.
I think my next step needs to be moving to a slightly bigger organisation where i manage a HR team, even if only small and get involved in more project work. Longer term i would like to go down the HR BP route, but i don't have the skill set right now for that.

In terms of my organisation, things are pretty stagnant right now, at one point we had lots going on, huge changes but right now, there is a period of stability (great), but not much growth and a plateau. There is no direction being given by the SLT, which leaves myself and probably many others feeling a bit under utilised/unfulfilled, which has impacted my development.

Your suggestions are really helpful. My intention is to ask work to pay for training, so i probably need to choose one route, I'm just not sure which is best.
