Level 5 or Level 7?

Hi everyone!

I have just submitted my final Level 3 assessment and am now considering my next move for training. I have been working in HR for just over 3 years, at my first role I oversaw the HR for the full business as it was a software SME and now I work as a HR Advisor in a medium sized business. I really enjoyed the Level 3 but did not really find it challenging and am now looking to go straight into the next qualification but am unsure what is the right option. I don't have a degree or anything like that so am unsure whether the Level 7 will be too much of a jump at this stage. Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you so much!

  • I will repeat what I have effectively been saying for years. If you are educated/bright enough and have good experience, I would always recommend level 7.
  • Hi Darcey - well done on your Level 3. The CIPD qualifications are designed as building blocks so it is better to do Level 5 before Level 7 unless you have significant experience at a senior level, a strategic role and a strong academic background. I am happy to help you to explore the options if that helps - I work with a CIPD study centre and advise learners every day.
  • Hello,
I think the L5 is a tough qualification for those without experience at a reasonable level. More importantly unlike the L3 qualification, there is a significant demand for University style research, Harvard style referencing in every AC plus some real academic vigour with SIM & AI reporting with every assessment. The actual assessments range from an average of 4290 to 5005 word counts, again a significant jump. There are 7 of these.

If you had the level of experience stated PLUS a solid and recent Uni degree in a related subject, then I'd totally say go for L7, but in honesty I think a Level 5 would be muh more suitable.

    Hope this helps
