CIPD Profession Map question

Hello!

My manager and I have been working through the CIPD Profession Map to benchmark my skills, knowledge and behaviours against its criteria at Associate level.

There are a couple of things in there that have cropped up and we're unsure what the CIPD are referring to, and I can't find any information on the CIPD site when I do a search. Any help would be gratefully received.

Specialist Knowledge / Employee Experience / Trust - Different trust models and how they can be used to improve relationships at work

Does anyone have any examples of trust models?

Specialist Knowledge / Employee relations / Consultation and negotiation - Difference approaches and models of consultation and negotiation

Does anyone have any examples of models for negotiation?

A Google search will bring up some information but more around Executive level - I'm assuming the CIPD is referring to something more HR based, especially as this is aimed at associate level.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Elle, great question!

    For trust, I would look at models such as:
    * Maister's trust equation
    * Mayer, Davis and Schoonman's work on organisational trust
    The CIPD also have this evidence review of Trust and Psychological Safety from an HR perspective, which is a great starting place: www.cipd.org/.../8542-psych-safety-trust-practice-summary.pdf

    For negotiation, look at approaches such as:
    * Integrative negotiation (win-win)
    * Distributive negotiation (win-lose)
    * Adversarial negotiation (win-lose but with hard bargaining!)

    I hope this is useful.
    Kind regards
    Miriam, CIPD
