Seeking advice on a career pivot

Hi - I’m hoping this is the best place for the guidance I need to make a career pivot. I have 25+ years experience in business development, including senior roles based across Asia, the Middle East, US and Europe working largely with financial services clients, and having also completed a postgrad diploma in HRM I’m interested in transitioning into global mobility roles. Although I have no prior experience in that function, I’m looking to leverage my commercial background and extensive international exposure, combined with my HR qualification - how can I do this effectively? Where should I focus my efforts and what is realistic to expect as a first step on this path? Thanks in advance

    A couple of things come to mind as someone who has made a similar career pivot myself. First, it’s important to understand and accept that this transition won’t be easy. Second, focus on the things you already know and how those skills and attributes can transfer into the roles you’re targeting.

    For example, try to align your HRM knowledge with the regions or countries where you have experience as a seller. Think about what you already know regarding HR policies and mobility policies in those countries, and how your sales experience might help accelerate your growth in those areas.

    Another important aspect is considering different roles that can lead to HR Mobility positions. When working in mobility, it’s essential to understand both internal and external mobility policies. Take time to read and educate yourself about these policies and understand what is working within companies in your country.

    Also, look at the types of HR roles companies are hiring for. In some organizations, HR generalists eventually take responsibility for mobility, performance management, and other key HR functions, which can be a strong pathway into mobility-focused roles.
