Seeking advice on a career pivot

Hi - I’m hoping this is the best place for the guidance I need to make a career pivot. I have 25+ years experience in business development, including senior roles based across Asia, the Middle East, US and Europe working largely with financial services clients, and having also completed a postgrad diploma in HRM I’m interested in transitioning into global mobility roles. Although I have no prior experience in that function, I’m looking to leverage my commercial background and extensive international exposure, combined with my HR qualification - how can I do this effectively? Where should I focus my efforts and what is realistic to expect as a first step on this path? Thanks in advance

  • Hi Julie. You may have to think about side ways or level below moves to access and gain some experience on this field before progressing forward. I am a huge believer in transferable skills and you will have a lot of these to bring to a career in HR. Try to identify and make sure you sell these out as your strong points. I took a step out of HR for a small period of time, spending time in the business and I have to say when I returned it was those skills that helped me to push my career forward developing stronger skills in leadership, finance and commercial areas. Think skills and build on this by networking to try and gain experience, is my recommendation to you.  Good luck!
