Next Steps: Redundancy and CIPD L5 L&D Qualified

Hi

Looking for some advice. I have been in HR/L&D for a number of years, starting out as a Secretary and Team Admin then LMS Administrator, onto Snr L&D Administrator, then moving to Learning & Development Specialist after finishing my CIPD L5 Diploma in L&D. My company is currently making me redundant due to location and to be honest I'm not sure of my next career steps.

Redundancy always knocks people for six (this is my first), and now I'm wondering whether L&D is for me. I love helping people, always been used to advise on HR issues at my site due to lack of HR presence, and I'm extremely compliant to policy/procedure (apparently sometimes to my detriment) but now I'm a bit disheartened.

What should be my next career steps? How can I transition into a HR role? Should I stick with L&D?

Feeling lost, please throw some advice at me!

Thanks,

Jess

  • Hi and welcome Jessica

Horrible experience for you, and it's almost impossible to give meaningful guidance on here.

But just in case would heartily recommend such as this

    - in a weird way the experience is to be welcomed potentially as a time to take stock and an opportunity to move to better places.

Secondly, don't ever lessen jobfinding efforts, especially networking (where most jobs come from) and don't give up - buy enough tickets in the raffle and sooner or later you will win

Thanks, David. I'll check it out, love the terminology already. I'm already applying for jobs (surprisingly got my first interview tomorrow!) and have an appointment with a recruitment agency this week in case I need to temp for a bit.

Although it's not entirely rational, the redundancy consultation process has left me feeling pretty worthless and questioning whether L&D is for me. I'll definitely take this opportunity to take stock of what I'm really passionate about now.
