Career in wellbeing

Hi All,

I have recently been thinking about what i enjoy about my job. I am an HRBP but not a fan of ER so was trying to think where i might want to specialise.

I have been doing a lot of work dealing with staff who have mental and physical conditions and been really enjoying supporting their well being journey back into work, Im also really into fitness and nutrition in my personal life and I like working on projects like implementing proactive well being initiatives, IE looking at reward etc.

So basically i was looking for some thoughts from your expertise on what roles you think would suit me as there isnt a role that immediately comes to mind and i dont think i want to move into the occupational health realms.

Any ideas or signposting would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Claire, and welcome

I would think you would need to target organisations with a very large workforce to find a specialised role, but I don't know if even very large employers have people specialising in welfare. It is, however, a long time since I worked in that world. I am not sure HR can accommodate your desire to advise people on fitness, nutrition and wellness. You might find a job in HR where that is one element of the work or you may have to retrain and become a life coach, dietician, personal trainer or similar.
  • Claire, there aren't many around but you could look out for a job as "company welfare officer" or similar.....
  • Hi Claire,

Why not set up on your own as a wellbeing advisor & life coach? Many organisations need this, but few need to employ someone full-time. You could advise on work-related issues or provide training sessions.

You'd also be your own boss!
