Most unusual item found?

Hi all, part of my morning has been spent clearing out the office where I am currently based in anticipation of a pending office move and I have been sitting at a desk where various individuals have come and departed, leaving behind an array of personal and work items.  I'm sure many other colleagues have done the same or had to clear out the workspace for individuals who have been escorted from the workplace or perhaps threw their toys out of the pram and refused to return.  And this got me thinking ...  the items I have come across today have not been particularly noteworthy - a broken necklace, memory sticks, pain relief, software disks, sunglasses - however one item caught my eye: a pair of chop sticks although I can't work out why they would be in an office ...

So, if you have been tasked with a similar clear out please do share your experiences of what prompted the clear out, any unusual items found and perhaps if (and how) you reunited them with their owner?  :-)

  • And, once a Gents WC blocked completely by about two dozen empty bottles of Tippex typewriting correction fluid Thinners. Only explanation for this bizarre find was that someone must have taken to sniffing the stuff whilst hiding in the cubicle, as it was a solvent, and inhaling enough fumes thereof would make them high - dunno, really - believe it or not, never done it myself.

But it was somewhat worrying - this was a heavy precision engineering design office, full of professional engineers and the like, and not  a refuge for reprobates - although sometimes one wondered if there was much difference........

  • Sorry to be late to this but my job is to deliver office changes so these are my favourite "finds": a stuffed beaver; a stuffed chicken (different organisation); a wedding album (and the couple were still married so they didn't mean to lose it); 7 pairs of size 8 stilettos (took a while and some discreet investigation for the male owner of them to claim them).  Plus - as a blast from the past - a fragile copy of a fax from Barings Bank
  • Hi Fiona, (no relation, honestly), thanks so much for the addion, it brought a smile.

And belated thanks to David for your contributions.  Please keep adding, it's very therapeutic to have a chuckle ....  :-)

  • Not in an office, but when I took on a new job I was given a spare car whilst waiting for my car to be delivered and found a pair of knickers and socks stashed under the drivers seat. Found when I decided to vacuum the car and said items blocked the suction. Rubber gloves were needed for disposal...I thought the worst!

  • Thanks Linda, I think the gloves were a wise move on your part ....  :-)

Ewwwgh... see what you've started, Clare ;)
  • Hang on, don't blame me!  It was the office move which supplied the inspiration, and that definitely wasn't MY decision.  :-D

    Too late ;)
  • We dismissed someone for being under the influence of cannabis and cocaine at work. Despite a positive drug test, he strenuously denied it. Anyway, we dismissed him and his manager collected all of his company property, including his uniform. In the pocket of his trousers we found a small packet of cannabis! You couldn't make it up, you really couldn't.
