Career Advice

Hi  everyone,

Appreciate a career advise from you all.  I have migrated to UK from Sri Lanka for further studies ( Master by research  /Research focus in HR) in October. I'm a HR professional with 19 years of experience with private organizations in Sri Lanka.  Also I'm an Associate Member in Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Sri Lanka, Chartered body for Human Resources Sri Lanka affiliated to CIPD.  Currently I'm doing a part time job to support my expenses but I need to get in to Human Resources soon as that is my passion. I look forward to expertise advise here from you all with regards to my next steps.  Though I held senior positions back in my home country I would like to start from an entry level Human Resources position here since I need to understand work culture and processors. Appreciate your guidance for me to get in to a part time job here in HR. I'm based in Leeds. Thank you.

Best regards,

Gayathri

  • Hi Gayathri  welcome and thank you for sharing your journey. With your extensive HR experience and academic focus, you already have a strong foundation  it’s perfectly reasonable to start in an entry-level HR role in the UK to learn local culture and processes. In the meantime, building your knowledge around employee engagement strategies can be a real asset  many UK employers value HR professionals who understand how to support morale, retention, and productivity: betterme.world/.../.

  • Hi Anna, Thank you so much for your advise. I will look forward to learn UK labour law soon. I already started applying for positions but still no luck moslty because I can apply only for part time at the moment. Thank you again.
