Coronavirus: Your workplace questions

At this difficult time, we'd like to offer people managers (and others) who are not CIPD Members an opportunity to ask questions about their specific workplace challenges.

We hope that collectively, the Community will feel able to chip in with guidance and signpost support and resources where these exist.

Thank you.

  • Supporting the wellbeing of employees are probably one of the many questions line managers are asking... "How can we support our direct reports to check their mental health, if we are working remotely?" I understand that it is not easy to pick up emotional behaviour when you are on the other side of the line... Are there any guidelines this group can share, maybe starting from basic, as to start conversation, what questions to ask?

  • Hi Lourdes,

We have sent emails to all staff working from home, wishing them well, thanking them for their hard work and acknowledging how difficult this has been for people. We've also sent details of www.mind.org.uk/.../ and the Breathing Space telephone number (although I think this is Scotland specific).

We are trying to make sure our Managers contact staff a few times a week, but they are not all comfortable with having these conversations (we are working on this with training and guidance) so thought it would be better signposting the professional sites.

    Thanks,
