Christmas Party 2021! Cancel, or not?

I am seeing articles in City AM and the FT of large companies (EY, Slaughter & May), who are cancelling their large firm wide Christmas parties in favour of smaller teams parties this year (due to Omicron, or Covid generally).

We are only a headcount of 60 and are still deciding what to do. What are you doing?

  • So, we've made the decision to postpone ours - which will now be held in February. We put a poll out to everyone who had booked to attend, and more than a quarter wanted to postpone (with no one shouting loudly about wanting to go ahead). It feels right to hold it at a time when everyone feels able to participate.

A quick question to anyone who has similarly cancelled or postponed - are you giving or doing anything in its place? Ours was a lunch/afternoon event, so I am thinking about saying that all staff can have the afternoon off (other than skeleton staffing which would have been in place anyway), for Christmas shopping or something.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Nina
  • Hi Nina we took the decision yesterday to cancel a Christmas lunch that was due to go ahead on Friday. In it's place we have given everyone who was due to attend the afternoon off to go 'christmas shopping'.
