Benefits in kind and unpaid maternity leave

We have introduced a health care benefit that is a benefit in kind i.e. the organisation pays the insurance premium for employees, and the tax for this is deducted from employees' pay on a monthly basis. Having taken advice on this we will continue to make the tax deduction during the occupational and statutory maternity pay period, but it remains unclear how to approach this when an employee is in the unpaid portion of their maternity leave.
