Time off for Dependents

Dear Community

I would like to get some advice on Time off for dependants. One of our employees has requested emergency time off to look after her mum who needs palliative care. 

We understand her situation and did give her compassionate leave a couple of times. Could you please explain if there is any limit or if we are legally obliged to give her time off ( irrespective of paid/unpaid) every time she asks for one?

Are there any other ways to help the employee?

Some of the options I explored are:

  • McMillan website where they offer carers/ Support to look after the needy.
  • Seek NHS support 

Our company does not provide any private medical support to families.

I also wanted to make sure we are not missing any legal bits. I mean, what else should we be doing other than giving her reasonable time off, and for how long?
