So my company needs to move offices ASAP. We are currently in what can be classed as a suburb and the manager wants to move to a major city centre. Although this is only around 7 miles away from current office it means pretty much all staff will need to get the train etc to the new office or pay high parking fees. Managment have said they will not contribute to travel costs which will be around £1000 for yearly train card. 95% of staff are local to the current office so it means added distance and time for everyone. Most staff are local as that was the ethos of the company, wanting local employees to support local buiness. There are about 20 staff based in the office and further 15 already working from home nationally. Management have said if people can work from home they can. There has not been any consultation yet. Some people are really not happy, some are ok and some are keeping quiet till it all goes through. Contracts state work address and then says You may be required to work at any other location as requested by management. Management have also stated some people can start later and finish ealrier for childcare issues but there will be those that cannot do this.
New to this area so my question is what needs to happen next, consultation etc. For those not able to work from home will they have to be offered redundancy if they do not want to move?
