  • It looks pleasing to the eye but could use a narrative - as a lot of the data is already available on the ONS's website, some added value would be appreciated. Also, when I looked at flexi-work, the first table label shows term-time work which is a little confusing.
  • Very useful! I've shared this with colleagues and I'm sure we'll refer to it regularly in the preparation of reports and analysis for executives. Obviously, I'd like to see more and more granular break-downs by region and sector, but as a starting point, this is very good.

The choice of colours isn't awful but, as a colour-blind user, they are all a bit narrow. I know they are making use of the CIPD's official pallet, but perhaps some accessibility testing would be good?
  • Agree with others about it needing some narrative. The first two charts when you click on the "Flexi-Time" option for data seem to only chart term time working. How is the CIPD defining flexi-time, did they not seek data about other types flexible working or flexi-time (for example, being able to work flexible hours each day). Not entirely sure what to take from these charts except to say there has been an increase in term-time only working which for my role and organisation isn't particularly useful or beneficial with no other type of flexible working or flexi-time arrangement shown as a comparison. I'd definitely say the page needs some more work personally.

Thank you for your feedback Gemma; this is helpful to know. There are further charts on other types of flexible working (like annualised hours, compressed hours, job shared and homeworking) further down the data hub listing page. Would it be more helpful to have all of the charts relating to types of flexible working on one page?
  • In reply to Olga:

Thank you Olga, this is really helpful.
  • In reply to Robey:

Thank you Robey; we will definitely look into some more accessibility testing and can explore more granular breakdowns.
  • In reply to Holly Ivins:

I think it would be helpful to see them in relation to one another, yes term time working has increased but how does that increase compare to other types of flexible working. I think you should also look at how it's labelled or referenced. As I notice that you have an option to view data for "Flexi time working rates" and another option to view data specific to "Term time working rates" but yet they seem to bring you to the same or very similar landing pages. I'm personally not sure what value is currently to be had by having two options taking you to much of the same data. And as I commented before, I see little comparison between different types, and it's not clear what narrative CIPD is trying to portray or explain here.

Thank you for this feedback Gemma; I'll take it back to our team and we'll plan what to do next.
