Hi Alison. I'm 11 days in now and I feel like I'm making good progress. I've completed my Self Assessment, I've nominated my colleagues for the Colleague Assessment and I am now on with the Impact Report, though only just started it really. I have my professional discussion scheduled as well.

Hi Clare.

I think my top tips for the professional discussion are:

Make sure your presentation on the case study does actually cover the questions that you are asked to cover. Don't just present the content of the report, there are three specific things you are asked to present about. I think a lot of people miss that. The questions are in the guidance pack.

Don't talk too much! I think I over-talked in response to some questions, but I checked back after a while and then modified my later responses to make them a little bit more brief.

Relax. The assessor will put you at your ease. Try not to stress if you can. It's pretty informal.

Try to think through other examples of your work which cover the behaviours and core areas of the CPD map. Supplementary examples are useful in helping your assessor fill any gaps.

Think about your own CPD and how you keep up to date.

Reread your case study, impact report and self-assessment so it's familiar again.

Hi Hayley.

The best piece of advice I can give is to read the case study several times over the first few days and try to relate it to the questions you are being asked to answer. Don’t lose sight of the questions. It's really important that you actually answer the question being asked, not the question you would like to answer!

Don't forget to start writing things down as you read through the problem and information. Don't feel that you need to use all of the data and information provided either. I started writing at about day 3 because that’s how I prefer to work. I like to write to get my ideas down and then edit later, but you might prefer to work differently. I have seen advice that reading for the first week and writing for the second week was one way, but I would have run out of writing time if I’d followed that.

Other than that, best advice I can give is be structured in your report. Format it as requested too.

Hi Hayley,
I submitted my case study this morning. I agree with Andrew, several readings is essential to distil the information down to the issues that are important for you to address. I referred back to the evidence in the case study document as much as possible. Personally, I found the case study hard work; the volume of reading, writing and thinking has been tiring. I spent a LOT of time on it and whilst doing it I did no other work on the Experience Assessment. I now have to get back to that so I can submit everything for the end of the month. 8 weeks goes quickly!

Thanks for this, very helpful. I don't submit until June 14th so planning on using the next bank holiday to my advantage!

How have you found the impact assessment? I have found it interesting and different to what I had prepped for after my professional discussion. The bullet points have taking me slightly off course to how I would want to answer the main question, and the word count is quite restrictive.

Anyway quite enjoying the challenge so far, just want to make sure I am on the right lines with all this work.

I'd second Sarah's note about not doing anything else on the overall assessment while doing the case study. There is more than enough to keep you occupied and trying to do other elements during the two weeks you have is liable to be a distraction you don't need.

Hi Andrew. So I clicked GO on the case study report on Friday. I have started writing today. Did you take any time off work to complete this? I am a little concerned about the 14 days as I don't tend to get much evening time in the week?
