MCIPD Experience Assessment

Hello community.

I have just registered to start my experience assessment for MCIPD and was wondering if anyone else was just starting the process as well. It would be great to buddy up and share thoughts about the process.

I’m very much a non standard HR professional, I used to work as an engineer and transitioned into HR via data, reporting and systems, later working on culture change, employee insights and now reward. I’m a commercially aware mathematics graduate with 9 years’ experience in HR across a range of industries.

It would be great to connect with others going through the same process (and happy to connect with others who have already done so).

  • Hurray! have just finished and submitted. Could not fit everything into 5000 words so I had to leave some things out but I figure you can't cover off absolutely everything. Deadline was tonight and I've just finsished at 9pm having worked all day on the implementation plan section. Exhausted!

  • Hi. I’m new to the forum and facing the final hurdle of my assessment with my professional discussion on Thursday. My anxiety is through the roof, I have no idea what to expect and am starting to unpick all of my submissions and seriously doubting myself! Any words of wisdom or advice on the general approach of the assessor would be appreciated. I have prepared the answers to questions as part of the case study presentation and have tried to pull together additional examples of work to support my submissions. I’m starting to think it’s possible to over-prepare!

    Well done on getting this far through! My Professional Discussion is Friday next week and I just had a coaching session to help prepare.

    A few things I noted down, which hopefully will help reduce your anxiety, because that's not great to hear!

    It is the assessors job to put you at ease. They are not there to make life hard for you. The assessor's job is to find as much evidence to put you over the line. They will work in a structured way, and they will explain this to you at the start.

    Read back through all of your written evidence and the case study. Remember to focus on the actual requirements of the case study, don't try to just prove how much you know about HR, focus on the rationale for your proposal etc.

  • Thanks Andrew. I have re-read everything and have prepared notes and further work examples. My presentation focusses on the 3 key areas I have been asked to cover and I have prepared some prompt cards rather than having to frantically search through notes if I lose where I am. I had a practice run with my Director yesterday which helped and have since been practicing with my 7 year old daughter who hasn't got the slightest clue what I am talking about!

    This time tomorrow it will all be over!

  • I am happy to report that I just received notification that I was successful in gaining my Chartered MCIPD! Definitely time for a celebration I think!

    How did you get on? I love the idea of flash cards and preparing some extra examples, I have my assessment in a few weeks and am just trying to think the best way to be as fully prepared as possible!
