MCIPD Experience Assessment

Hello community.

I have just registered to start my experience assessment for MCIPD and was wondering if anyone else was just starting the process as well. It would be great to buddy up and share thoughts about the process.

I’m very much a non standard HR professional, I used to work as an engineer and transitioned into HR via data, reporting and systems, later working on culture change, employee insights and now reward. I’m a commercially aware mathematics graduate with 9 years’ experience in HR across a range of industries.

It would be great to connect with others going through the same process (and happy to connect with others who have already done so).

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

  • Hi Clare
No news for me yet....the waiting is just the worst!
    Good luck with your assessment.
  • Hi Clare.

I think my top tips for the professional discussion are:

Make sure your presentation on the case study does actually cover the questions that you are asked to cover. Don't just present the content of the report, there are three specific things you are asked to present about. I think a lot of people miss that. The questions are in the guidance pack.

Don't talk too much! I think I over-talked in response to some questions, but I checked back after a while and then modified my later responses to make them a little bit more brief.

Relax. The assessor will put you at your ease. Try not to stress if you can. It's pretty informal.

Try to think through other examples of your work which cover the behaviours and core areas of the CPD map. Supplementary examples are useful in helping your assessor fill any gaps.

Think about your own CPD and how you keep up to date.

Reread your case study, impact report and self-assessment so it's familiar again.

    I hope that helps!

  • How did you get on in the end, Sadie Price?
  • Hi There,
I know this is an old thread but searching through the forums its seems the most relevant! I'm currently going through my EA to obtain my MCIPD and plan to start my case study tomorrow. I'm feeling quite anxious and was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice they wish they'd known before commencing? I had a coaching call with an assessor last week but they only discussed my Impact Report and Self Assessment and said they can't provide advice on the case study.
Many thanks and well done to those of you who've been successful in achieving your accreditation this year!

  • Hi Bethan.

No problem. I think for me the best piece of advice I can give is to read the case study several times over the first few days and try to relate it to the questions you are being asked to answer. Don’t lose sight of the questions.

I started writing at about day 3 because that’s how I prefer to work. I like to write to get my ideas down and then edit later, but you might prefer to work differently. I have seen advice that reading for the first week and writing for the second week was one way, but I would have run out of writing time if I’d followed that.

Other than that, best advice I can give is be structured in your report. Format it as requested too.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Andrew
Thank you so much for your prompt response - this is really helpful! Like you I like to write as I go and then compile and edit but that's if I have any ideas at all, I'm hoping my mind won't go blank and I won't know what to do!
I'm starting in the morning so the clock will be ticking for the next 14 days.
Thanks again for your reply, much appreciated.

  • Hi Steve,
I'd like to change my preferred name however this link no longer works. I've spoken to the membership team several times about the fact that although I am registered under my current name, the site still displays me with a previous name (when I last had a live CIPD membership - I've been married 10 years so most definitely no longer known under the name displayed here!) Any ideas please? Membership team keep telling me they have fixed it...
    Thanks

  • I'll email you privately, Sarah and investigate myself.
  • Hi Andrew. Hope you are well? I am currently completing me EA and working my way nicely through the impact report. I was wondering if you had any tips before i click go on the case study?

    Thanks

  • Hi Hayley.

The best piece of advice I can give is to read the case study several times over the first few days and try to relate it to the questions you are being asked to answer. Don’t lose sight of the questions. It's really important that you actually answer the question being asked, not the question you would like to answer!

Don't forget to start writing things down as you read through the problem and information. Don't feel that you need to use all of the data and information provided either.
