Finally 'Chartered' via the Experience Assessment route!

So.... I have been an Associate member for years as, for personal reasons, I didn't finish the whole of what is now the Level 7 course.

I finally got my act together and decided to apply for the experience assessment rather than start the whole course again and still have to have the assessment!

Results are through today - and I've passed!! Finally Chartered!!  Such a relief!  We are going through an incredibly busy time at work and so much went wring while I was completing the assessment.  The hard work paid off!!

Won't be able to celebrate for a few days but definitely deserve a glass of bubbly!

So if you are thinking about routes - go for it - the timing is never right - and it is a considered cost!  But - I think it was worth it in the end!

  • This is one of my favourite threads this year, so I'll just park this here...

  • Hi Miriam.. just saw your post albeit a bit late .. I have just started on my EA and needless to say its very daunting.. I have read through most of the threads and your advice to others.. for the case study do we need to follow any specific format and also is there any other websites you recommend before attempting the case study.. since it's a 2week window being quite nervous about starting it .. also any advice about the final personal discussion and does it really go on for 3.5hrs. many thanks and looking forward to your advice..
  • Hi Tania,

For the case study, I would recommend you do it in the format that you feel comfortable - I did mine in the headings of what the question asked us to address.

I didn't look at other websites. I used my own knowledge and experience. But that's not saying that you shouldn't.

In relation to the personal discussion - mine took about 3 hours, maybe slightly more, and we had a short break in between.

I was in the same boat as you, but try not to worry.... have faith in yourself and your ability. Good luck - let us know how you get on!
  • Dear Miriam,

Congratulations on achieving the Member. I did EA for the Associate level two years ago and have been thinking of doing the next level now. Would it be the same format ( Work Impact Report / Referrals / Case Study / Professional Discussion) or anything more than this. Appreciate if you can just highlight the area so I can start preparing relevant work examples.
  • Hi Ashehad,

Yes, it's the same format as before: Work Impact report, case study, referrals and professional discussion, you should be able to start thinking of examples and making note of them to use in your impact report and discussion.

    Hope that helps....
  • Thank you Miriam, much appreciated.
  • Hi Miriam,
I have been contemplating the upgrading and would really appreciate some guidance with the application if you wouldn't mind being a sounding block.
I have tried the mentor programme but was told that they don't have any mentors available so now exploring other options.

  • Hi Naomi,

Feel free to PM me. I am also happy to talk through verbally over the phone if that would help. Don't let it put you off applying though!!
  • Hi Miriam,

Belated congratulations as I've found your post only today.

Besides, what could be your advice if any on materials to use in preparation? I'm in Organisational consulting for some 6-7 years but may be confused at some specific CIPD terminology. Thanks a million in advance and best wishes in your career!

  • Hi Guys, I have started Experience Assessment for MCIPD status today and have a question regarding the Workplace Feedback (colleague assessment).

For anybody who has been through this process, how much background info and context did you give your chosen colleagues before they logged on to complete their assessment? Did you give them a copy of the self assessment that you completed so that they could see what examples you used? Obviously I am not trying to influence their answers, but I want them to answer as best they can using the most relevant examples (that may not be fresh in their mind). Any thoughts/comments appreciated. Andy
