Upgrading to Chartered Membership

I have over 30 years HR experience and undertook the Level 5 qualification in 2017 and the Level 7 in 2019.  I am working as a ER and Change Consultant for a large local authority.

I have been wanting to upgrade to Chartered membership for some years as I feel it reflects my experience and the level I am working at.

Can anyone provide any advice for completing the assessment?

Thank you.

  • Hi Debra. I, like yourself, have been in HR for a while, at Head of level for 10 years, and CIPD Level 7 qualified for about 20 years. I tried the written assessment route a number of years ago, but found it really cumbersome and I didn't write it in a way that I met the criteria they were looking for. At the start of the year, CIPD were doing an offer of a free upgrading video assessment, so I decided to go for it again. I found this so much easier, having done the prep to think of examples, it just felt like an hours 'chat'. If there were additional questions that needed to be asked to get the information, that was possible in a way that a form can't do. I would have never gone for upgrading again if I'd had to go the form route, the video assessment was much more user friendly, and I would recommend that as a route.
