Little Confused on Experience Assessment CIPD!

Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate some guidance from those who've been through this. My name is Khizar, I'm an HR Generalist with 4 years' experience, currently at a Chinese construction and engineering company. I'm considering applying for CIPD membership through the Experience Assessment route rather than completing a qualification first, but I'm not sure if that's the right call, or which level I should be aiming for - Associate Member or Chartered Member.

A bit about what I actually do day to day, since I think it's relevant to the question:

- Our Automated performance evaluation process used to be entirely manual and paper-based. I identified this as a bottleneck, then designed and built a digital system for it, cutting out the paperwork and speeding up the whole review cycle -- zero cost to the company.

- Same story with timesheets. Managers used to sign off on every single box by hand. I built a web app, at zero cost to the company, that replaced that with one-click e-signing.
- Beyond the systems side, I regularly get pulled in to resolve conflicts between managers and employees, and I tend to look for process gaps to fix rather than waiting to be told what's broken.

Given that background, does the Experience Assessment route sound sensible for me, or would I be better off going the formal qualification route first? And for anyone who's actually been assessed this way, what kind of experience mapped to Associate vs Chartered in your case, what should I be ready to demonstrate?

Genuinely grateful for any steer from people who've already been through this. Thank you!

  • I think there is a tool in the membership section of the CIPD site which should be able to help you.

As an aside, the bits of your question which stood out for me were the claims of 'zero cost to the company'.  You may have meant net savings which is obviously good but there is no such thing as zero cost.

There have been quite a few discussions on this forum about the experience assessments which may give you some useful tips.

    Good luck with your assessment.
