Agency fees

Hello, We are currently negotiating with agencies. We use quite a few different agencies and all have different terms.

I would be really grateful if someone people could share what transfer fees they seem to be paying for temp to perm fees and is this on a sliding scale?

So, if you have had someone working at your school for a term it would be 20%

After 2 terms it would be 15%

After 3 terms 10% (or even better, no transfer fees).

I have also look at the government website https://www.gov.uk/employment-agencies-and-businesses/fees-to-hiring-companies-transfer-fees#:~:text=You%20can%20only%20charge%20a,to%20extend%20the%20worker's%20assignment&text=the%20hirer%20gives%20the%20worker,it%20started%20if%20that's%20later but cannot seem to interpret it. Does it mean that if someone has worked at our school for 14 weeks without a break in service, we are able to hire them permanent without needing to pay a transfer fee at all?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jenny

  • Hi Jenny, my reading of the Government guidance is that if the temp works for you for 14 consecutive weeks* or more, then no temp to perm fees can be charged. Not many people seem to be aware of this.

    * any breaks of 42 days or less between assignments are disregarded and assignments are added together to see if 14 weeks has been reached
