Headteacher recruitment (primary)

Hello all. I work in HR but I am also a parent governor in a small maintained primary school. The headteacher is retiring after 25 years and the governors need to recruit a new head. Does anyone have any advice regarding recruitment please? The plan is to advertise in TES and social media, possibly using a paid for Facebook advert. I don't have any experience of recruiting in education (I work in the environmental sector and previously housing) so any help would be much appreciated.

    Definitely echo Nina's advice.

TES is absolutely the place to go, but they know this, so charge accordingly. Just go online, but with a minimum silver package, ideally gold as the lower packages barely get any views (they get deprioritised in listings). Their ATS is actually pretty good too for doing your shortlisting on - ask for access to the school account and you can view all the applications directly in TES, side-by-side.

Facebook is not a bad shout for teachers, but probably not so relevant for leadership roles. Twitter is actually a great place to raise awareness of teacher vacancies - there's a strong education community on there and you can target particular subjects/specialisms with appropriate hashtags. If your school has an account, it's worth tweeting a link to the TES advert plenty of times over the recruitment window - costs nothing and helps you get more bang out of the TES buck!
