Continuous performance management in schools / appraisals

Dear colleagues, our current appraisal system linked to teachers and support staff pay reviews is traditional, cumbersome and paper based and we have begun a culture shift towards continuous performance management, shorter term targets and good conversations around development and engaging in continuous improvement. We now would like to think about a system and on line process to support this shift and move away from the paper based appraisal forms to check ins with managers and reflection on learning and coaching.

I'd love to hear of your experiences around some of the systems out there  eg SIMS performance management, blue sky etc and the pros and cons of this plus any other tools or ideas you have around how to move away from traditional appraisal frameworks that benefit the staff and the academies.

Many thanks Amanda

  • A shift away from 'cumbersome paper based system to a ...system and on-line process.... looks like jumping out of the frying pan to the fire.

All good management involves continuous or nearly continuous appraisal, by looking, listening discussing work and how it is to be achieved. This may involve setting tartgets/goals, possible training, budgets etc., and dates by which the manager will meet and review/help you along the way.

I've always used a blank bit of paper with the person's name on it as rarely two people have exactly the same needs/requirements.
