Absence and the Bradford Factor

We have been trailing using the Bradford Factor for calculating staff absence/attendance for the last academic year.

This is calculated as: Number of occasions x number of occasions x number of days lost over a rolling 12 months.

At times the BF can skew figures.

Do others working in Education use this system and how do they and staff find it?

If you try searching these threads, you will discover that quite a few people have serious misgivings about the Bradford Factor. You will also find tips to help avoid it becoming a blunt instrument.
  • I personally don't like the Bradford Factor calculation. At the end of the day the absence is what it is - the BFC just inflates the absence unnecessarily.
