supply teachers (bank)

Afternoon

I have just started a new HR job in Education.  I have worked in previous organisations (care) where we kept bank staff.

The organisation I now work for, Language school, requires teacher’s ad-hoc.  For example they could need 8 teachers for 6 weeks in 3 weeks’ time.   These teachers need to go through the various safe guarding processes, interviews, DBS, reference checks etc. The lead time can be short and we struggle to get teachers in on time, planning is difficult and not always possible, due to the nature of the business.

My first observation, this would be so much easier if we had a 'bank' of teachers, all of whom have had the necessary checks completed.

My first project is looking if this is viable, following our own internal governance and legislation.

My first thought would be to advertise for X bank staff in X subjects, do the necessary checks and keep the candidates on file until we need them... is it as simple as that?

If anyone can help/guide me I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

Donna

  • Hi Donna, might be more viable for you to use an specialist teaching agency? It could cost you a lot of money and time to recruit for a bank of teachers who are are then no longer are available when you need them.

We have a bank of Invigilators for exams and a couple of ex teaching employees we call upon, but mainly for short-medium term cover which cannot be provided internally, we would use an agency.
