1 Teachers and maternity start dates during school holidays

Hi, would appreciate your advice.

I have a Teacher whose baby is due on the 15th August. She is asking if she can start her maternity leave on the day the baby is born as she will be on summer holidays prior to this. Am assuming this is ok, that teachers can take summer holidays as usual and then start their maternity leave/pay on the day of the birth?

Thought I would check as it almost seems too good to be true:)

The latest someone can start their maternity leave is the day of birth - generally people start it earlier as they want some time to prepare or are finding work tiring by then. If she's on holiday before the birth, however I can see that it makes sense for her to arrange to start her maternity leave on the day of the birth - why would she start it earlier? ;-)
