Has anyone had a situation of an conditional employment offer being made for a TA for 1 terms work - Occ Health then advice that the person needs a Psychiatric referral before any kind of medical clearance can be given. The Academy is saying the cost of £960.00 + VAT for this advice is too much for 1 terms employment they can't afford it. They want to withdraw the offer of employment - which will be very difficult at this stage as we have no evidence of the person not being fit to work.

Any ideas?

Hi Cathie

I do not have this specific experience, but I am stunned at the cost you have cited for a psychiatric referral. Are there any other bodies you could turn to who would carry out the referral for less? I think you should ask what would actually happen in the referral and how long it would take to cost that much.

Hi
Its for an in depth 3 hour appointment to assess her suitability and fitness. They are insistent that she can't work alone with children unless seen by Psychiatrist so there is obviously a serious concern. The terms work is 1:1 with a child.
