Providing home workstation equipment & duty of care

Hi there,

Just a quick question, but is a company's duty of care to provide home workstation equipment (eg an office chair) an obligation from as soon as possible after a new starter joins the company? Or is this something that can be linked to completion of the probationary period?

  • From day one you need to ensure that they have a safe place of work where ever that workplace be. You can’t in effect put up with an unsafe practice for six months or so because it’s economically better for you.

    Clearly you will need to carry out a risk assessment to ensure that what ever arrangements are in place meet the minimum requirements which might involve equipment they already have. 

    incidentally  do you take the same approach with IT equipment which is probably far  more expensive?
