Re: Question about a trial period

I have a question: what are your thoughts on having a 'trial' period for a flexible working request. For example, employee is moving to other part of the country so we have agreed a pattern of when they are coming into the office as it's quite a considerable commuting time. We have said on a 3 month trial basis to see from either side how it's working...is this a good idea? I am unsure how it works from an employer's perspective if after the 3 months their are teething problems or if the employee wishes to make changes, would they then have to put through another formal flexible working request? Am I over complicating this! Thanks

  • Many FWR have a trial period - the key thing however is being clear in writing what happens at end. In this case, if it doesn't work, it is likely employee may have to resign and you should be clear up front. So everything in writing and a clear default if agreement cant be reached at end of FWR (probably default to current practice to be clear)
