Employing a foreign national in Malaysia

Good Afternoon

I work for a global company with HQ in the UK. We're looking to establish a key account role to cover Australia and SE Asia. We may have found the right person who is looking to relocate from Europe to Malaysia - would anyone be able to advise on whether this is an option and where I could look for  further advice?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Jo,

It is deemed possible to hire an expat within the local market. But you may need to be aware on the cost if you hire externally. I would recommend that since your company is based in the UK, it is best to relocate someone within your organization from the UK to Malaysia for your Key Account role as a mission assignee. It will not only benefit your cost; it might as well be a good opportunity for them to explore a new region.

But if you are willing to hire externally, it is best to discuss with the HRBP as well as the Rewards team on what's best for the new hire to relocate comfortably and be able to retain them for the long run.
