Setting up in Dubai

Hi

I've just joined a global organisation that is  in the process of setting up an entity in Dubai.  I literally just took over from my predecessor last week with hardly any handover!  She did make a start but she also didn't know how to go about this so I've been left with documents and information that I have to try and make sense of.

I have no idea where to start!  During the handover, I was told that we need to make the UK contract compliant with UAE.  If someone could point me in the right direction of even just the starting point, this would be a massive help to me!

Thank you

  • Hi Hazel,

First, congratulations on your assignment in the UAE! That's great.

I would advise first to take a UAE Labour Law one-day course - it will help you understand labour laws and jurisdictional areas, as this is crucial when it comes to contracts. You would also most probably require a legal team member to review them — perhaps a legal consultant can assist you with this.

I am a Recruitment Manager in the UAE (hospitality) with over 6 years of experience. If you require assistance with setting up the hiring process, I might be able to help, as I am currently off work and studying CIPD Level 7.

  • Hi Irina

I wish it was me that was working in UAE, I'm based in the UK but am helping to set up over there.  I definitely agree that we will need legal teams to review all documents before we do anything.  I'm just trying to do the majority of the work so that they review, rather than do it all for us.

I will look into the Labour Law one day course, that's really helpful.

I think I'm in panic mode currently due to trying to make sense of what what has already been done and what needs to be done.  I'm using ChatGPT as a starting point, but won't be relying on it for 100% accuracy, it's literally a starting point.

I almost need a step by step flow chart or something like that to help steer me in the right direction

  • MOHRE/Labour Contract requirements and the relevant jurisdictional framework form the foundation of the contract here. Usually, the on-site legal team that registered the company will have access to these details, so you can log in and download a copy to use as a basis, and then build on it.
