HR Internship

Hi fellow HR professionals,

Recently appointed as HR Manager to an SME Company here in Dubai hired to implement HR Structures/policies/processes & systems. I need a second pair of hands and more hours in the day! I'm looking to hire an HR Intern for up to 6 months to assist with some major projects, giving fantastic exposure to the following areas:

1) Designing & implementing Organization Structure,  Job Evaluations, Updating all JDs, Contract Addendums.

2) End- end recruitment: Hiring Request Forms, Job Spec & positing, CV Screening, Interview coordination, interview evaluations, offer management, onboarding

3) Policy design, approval and implementation (Worktime Directive/Leaves of Absence/Org Design & Salary management/Performance Management/Employee Relations/HSE)

4) Day to Day HR Operations (Employee File Management/Drafting employee letters/Absence Management (sick/annual leave)/Payroll preparation etc).

This internship has a very real likelihood of turning into a full time HR Assistant/Executive role.

Can anyone give advice on the best approach to hiring a shining HR star intern, ideally someone who needs practical experience with the above to advance their CIPD qualification?

Thanks in advance!

  • Have you worked with any university? For example, Middlesex Dubai offers a Master's in HR and they also have a career section that's keen on helping their students gain practical experience.
  • Hi Camilla,
If you'd also consider a "returnship", you could contact Mums@Work - http://www.mumsatwork.ae/ - to discuss their returnship programme. They have some candidates who have been out of the workplace and who are looking to add recent experience to their CV to help them get back into permanent employment (maybe even with previous HR experience).

    Hi Agni,
I've not yet worked with a university, but definitely a great avenue to explore. Thanks for the advice.
